The Start to Politicality

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m terrible at blogging. I am a moody writer and that propels me to write during some moments, however, most of the time I think it’s not worth it.

I think the political climate has become so toxic that it’s finally compelled me enough to write on a daily basis. I’ve come to notice that too many people are being sucked in by false information at an unstoppable rate. I had hope for this country two years ago, but now I know that hope simply isn’t enough. Action is necessary. And since I strongly believe that education is the single most important policy in order to keep a country running in a progressive manner and able to function properly, I am taking to this blog to teach those who happen to stumble upon my “lessons.”

I just hope that I can make a positive impact on those who have been mislead, don’t understand politics or who haven’t cared to vote, thinking it wouldn’t make a difference. Perhaps by the presidential election in 2012, we will be heading towards the right track again.

Fox Noise

I haven’t written anything in a while. There are so many things that make me heated but I want to write with a clear head. I do have a good post coming about Religious Ideology vs. rational thinking; however, in the mean time, I just signed a petition to stop businesses from running Fox in their stores/offices, and I think it’s a smart thing to join the cause. Clearly, Fox News isn’t a news station. No, it is a propaganda station and they aren’t even covering up that fact. People are just too stupid to buy in to the defaming lies they tell. But that is a whole other story. My point is, businesses should not run politically challenged (and biased) anything knowing the public will willingly look at it.

I wanted to share the special message I wrote for the businesses who will see my name on that petition:

"I refuse to watch Fox News because the station is clearly not only Biased and Unbalanced but it uses its resources to make up lies and spread negatively charged propaganda (without shame) in attempts to discredit anyone not associated with the conservative party. The station is also guilty of hiring constituents like Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly to blatantly distort any truth given and to belittle anyone who has a fair story to share. Even worse, Fox News refuses to hire any credible or strongly opinionated Democratic commentator in an effort to make the leftists appear weak and irresolute. Any business that airs this station is either ignorant of these facts or has been sucked in to the black hole of deception which Fox News has successfully aspired to do. Still, it isn’t a business’s duty to air such trash as it will inevitably infect the weak-hearted and anger those already aware of the disturbing problem that is Fox News." (Me- Stephanie C.)

Misinformed -> Injustice

The title is all encompassing; however, I want to focus on the Arizona Immigration Law since it’s such a hot topic right now.

Recently, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed an Immigration Law, which not only obstructs Federal law but also blatantly impedes on inalienable human rights. The law, SB 1070,

1) Required officers to check a persons immigration status during traffic stops, detentions, and arrests,

2) Mandated that legal immigrants carry their papers at all times or face penalties, and

3) Made it illegal for an undocumented immigrant to have a job

which were struck down yesterday by a federal judge. However, there are a few other provisions which are still set to become law in August.

Now, some of you may be wondering what the problem with all of this is, and probably believe in State’s rights, and dislike illegal immigrants. I am writing to inform you of the bias you hold due to misinformation by the media as well as your political preference. I am in no way trying to be a “socialist liberal” as some have come to call liberals today; I am just tired of the lies told by Fox News and by others simply to instill fear and hate in uneducated and uninformed people.

Historically, the founders of this country set up State and Federal Laws so neither would oppress the other. States have responsibilities for things like Education, driving laws, certain illegal punishments, etc. Basically anything not specifically covered in the Constitution. However, the Federal Government is responsible for national laws like Immigration, Separation of Church and State (which, if you ask me, is not so separate anymore), Infrastructure, Civil Rights, Military, etc., etc. Included in the Constitution is the Supremacy Clause, which clearly states:

"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.” U.S. Constitution, Article VI

This means that no State can make any law that impedes on the Constitution. And the Constitution protects the right of the law, thus protecting the rights of the American people. Another example, the 14th Amendment, was enacted to protect the recently freed slaves after the Civil War. Today, the 14th Amendment protects any and all immigrants who cross the U.S. border and who have a child on U.S. soil. Sadly, the far right are attempting to change this law that has been in practice since 1868.

The Republicans would like you to think illegal immigrants come here to dump their offspring on U.S. soil and then leave. No. They know they are blatantly lying to you to scare you into thinking illegal immigrants are “stealing” things from the American people. Well, in reality, most of these people come here to work because they can’t earn enough in their own country to support their families. These illegal immigrants are the backbone of our country. Do you honestly think that they are stealing jobs white Americans have an “entitlement” to? First of all, no one has any right to a job. We all have to prove ourselves worthy. Second, these people take on jobs no American would- picking produce from the farmland, working the line in a meatpacking warehouse, making the clothes you wear on your back, etc. All for less than minimum wage, for longer hours than any part time or full time job permits with no benefits or overtime. They pay property taxes through the rentals they live in, therefore they are entitled to Medicare and send their kids to school.

And what is this whole anti-immigrant in school thing? Illegal immigrants aren’t taking over the public school system. These kids are not replacing white kids in schools or denying a spot to any one of them. No. They are just trying to get an education, which is a right for every living human being.

Last but not least, Republicans would like to make you think these illegal immigrants are smuggling drugs and weapons into the U.S. at massive rates. Wrong. In actual truth (and I personally have done a lot of research on this), the violence happening in Mexico surrounding the drug cartels is not any real threat to Americans. Yes, we are a cause because American dependence on drugs like cocaine is very high; however, these cartels are attempting to control the market as well as the political environment in Mexico. Not America. Another fact is that most weapons being smuggled between these two states are weapons smuggled from Arizona and Texas by cartels into Mexico to be used against their own people. Why? because Arizona and Texas don’t have strong weapon laws.

So, illegal immigrants coming to the U.S. are of no threat to us. They are not coming to the U.S. in swells to take over the country. They are not stealing anything from us. They are actually a huge help to our economy and they are people just like you who need to protect and provide for their families. Shame on you for believing the lies and the slander and Fox News Propaganda instead of finding out the truth about the matter.

Why else do you hear the phrase “question everything” so often. And, if you happen to be Christian, what happened to “thou shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”? These immigrants are your neighbors. And, “Thou shall not lie?” By believing these false accusations and passing them on, you are aiding and abetting this lie and fueling the fire for hate in this world. This is not good Karma and this is very hypocritical of your faith. Do right to everyone by finding the truth of everything and spreading that, instead of buying into propaganda from politicians who want to control you.

It’s A Circus Out There

I haven’t written on here in a long time. Mostly because I got bored, somewhat because I had other things to do, and lastly, because I was sick of posting useless bullshit that no one really cares about. I want to write about subjects that interest people, that make people question things they believed or half-believed in, that educate and inspire. I want to write about everyday contexts/situations that affect everyone. To be frank, I’ve wanted to do this for a long time but I haven’t collected my own thoughts together long enough to actually put out into the world. I haven’t really believed that what I publish will begin a discussion whether it’s silently to oneself or to the web world or real life. But then I realized, it doesn’t really matter. As long as I know, what I write is truth and rational; not bias and partisanal lies to ignite fear. That’s all I see now. And it angers me to my core.

I believe everyone has a right to live in nothing less than unconcern for their future as a world citizen. Sadly, I can see this being stolen from us and it’s not in silent treachery either. No, it’s loud and blatant in our faces. What makes it feel as just the opposite is the veil of the American Dream. We look faithfully at this carrot/cookie/Ferrari (whatever object you desire to use metaphorically) without questioning anything surrounding it or the simple fact that it’s taunting and haunting us daily. This is what we gaze at adamantly all while everything we’ve worked hard for to get that metaphorical object is being swiped away. And we’re letting it happen. We believe in the lies that were given to us. And we believe in the lies that are being told to cover up the lies already made.

It’s a sad reality and it’s all a part of the circus that is this world today. Lies. That is where this circus lies, ironically. We are being herded into a cage of defeat and deception, and anyone who can’t see this, I feel sorry for them. I’m not trying to sound bleak or pessimistic. I’m being honest and realistic. I’m tired of just letting things happen without questioning and discussing them. I will be delving further into my current vagueness (if it appears so) and will convey my metaphorical language in more concrete aspects in following posts if people care to read on further in my musings. As for now, I ask that you think about what I have already written. Open your mind to extracting the real from the chaos that is happening in this world today. After all, it is your world too, and you have every right to demand truth.
